Balloting for the Best Political Cover Contest has begun on Facebook, and your vote can help Luckbox beat The New York Times and Wall Street Journal

If you liked the cover of the November Luckbox special election issue please give it your (thumbs up) vote here. Your vote may help us defeat tough competition for the prestigious People’s Choice Award sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors. It’s a big deal to magazine people, so please cast your vote above and then read on.

The November cover demonstrates that a picture can be worth a lot more than a thousand words. Illustrator Paul Lachine’s deft portrayal of the candidates invites readers to draw their own conclusions about character, while suggesting the influence of everything from Covid to Kanye.

Most important, the cover reflects the mission Luckbox has pursued since its inception in April 2019. The magazine seeks truth based on facts, data and probabilities — not prejudice. In polarized times, the editorial and design teams collaborated to engage the largest possible audience: 100 percent of the electorate, not 50 percent.

That accomplishment required a delicate balance. After all, the team was covering politics in a magazine that’s not usually political. What’s more, they were leavening that coverage with opinion despite the publication’s dedication to data and probability.
