What’s Driving Luckbox Readers to the Voting Booth?
Our most recent survey reveals the political thinking of our favorite group of investors
Luckbox readers don’t seem resoundingly happy about the state of the nation. While 50% are voting for a presidential candidate they support, 43% are casting their ballots against a nominee or party.
That’s the upshot from a survey Luckbox conducted between Sept. 15 and Oct. 5. It has a margin of error of +/- 5.5%.
Let’s start with the issues readers judged most important:
- The economy (77%)
- Immigration (59%)
- The First Amendment (56%)
- Size of the government (55%)
- Supreme Court appointments (54%)
Let’s move on to responses to the key question: “In your opinion, what is the single most important issue in front of Americans voting in this upcoming Presidential Election?”
“The world is in disbelief that the self-proclaimed greatest nation offers voters a choice between a felon on one side, and a vice president perceived as riding others’ coattails without significant accomplishments on the other.”
—FP Steiner, Switzerland
“The biggest travesty facing our Nation is the fact that, out of 330+ million people, these two candidates are the best we can do? Seriously? There are literally millions of women and men with more integrity, respect for their fellow man and more real-world qualifications than the two clowns running combined.”
—Scott Marshall, Asheville, North Carolina
“The state and viability of our democracy and civil society. Social media and political division have really harmed connections and polite discourse, and people really seem to be on edge and quick to take offense over everything said or done.”
—Richard Jaffe, North Pottomac, Maryland
“The nation’s borders are out of control, and unbridled immigration threatens the fabric of our entire nation and its existence: Crime is out of control. The cities are rotten, and the American worker is in a malaise.”
—B. Barton, Richmond, Kentucky
“Election integrity and security. I worked in the election technology (I.T. side) for 12 years with two different companies. I know fraud has and will occur with how the system is set up now.”
—Patrick D’Onofrio, Centennial, Colorado
“Stabilizing the world leadership role of the U.S.; otherwise, we will find that China, Russia and other U.S. enemies are making all the rules”
—James Duffy, Manhasset, New York
“Abortion. Nobody should be able to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her body.”
—Betty Taylor-Roth, Gainesville, Florida
“First amendment. Nothing is more important. I never thought I’d live to see either party advocating for limiting free speech. I’m not really a Trump fan, but I’m voting for him solely based on first amendment issues like online censorship.”
—Shane Quimby, Cypress, Texas
“Ballooning debt of United States. Democrats don’t care, Republicans used to but not now with Trump. For a country that claims to care about its children, we are spending away their future with trillion-dollar annual deficits.”
—Robert Johnson, Bethesda, Maryland
“Global Warming will continually create more chaos and cost us. How much it affects us depends on what we do NOW.”
—Brad Beilfuss, Dyer, Indiana
“International Policy. I believe we need a President who can intimidate and/or persuade foreign Communist leaders to keep the peace, or we will be in World War III very soon. Trump was one of the only presidents with no wars anywhere in the world while he was president. We need his leadership right now to get these countries back in line.”
—Shane Veltri, Ogden, Utah
“Uniting the nation in truth and honesty rather than dividing us with accusations, misinformation, lack of thorough reporting by the media, lack of giving all of the facts from all angles instead of biased opinions and, most importantly, demonizing the opinions of others.”
—James Sly, Saginaw, Michigan
“Which candidate cares more about the people of America and what America stands for than they do donor money or popularity. We just experienced what may be the worst hurricane in the past century. Instead of putting all American resources and attention on helping the American people, we have an administration sending billions of dollars to Israel and Ukraine. I’d like an administration that puts AMERICA first.”
—Ali Nakhai, Tuckahoe, New York
“I firmly believe that housing affordability is the most pressing issue facing America today. The widening gap between income growth and housing costs has created a crisis where millions of Americans are struggling to find affordable homes (across all income levels) or are burdened by excessive housing expenses. This issue not only affects individuals and families but also has far-reaching consequences for our economy, social mobility and community stability. The lack of affordable housing options is forcing people to live farther from job centers and is exacerbating traffic congestion and environmental issues.”
—Joseph Wszolek, Portage, Indiana
