In March 2023, Chris Rock starred in Netflix’s first-ever live show with his stand-up special Chris Rock: Selective Outrage. The Oscars slap incident went down a year before, but this was the first time Rock spoke out about it.

Just a week later, the special was already racking up impressive numbers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The “1.22 billion minutes [it amassed] equate to about 20.3 million full runs of the hourlong special,” the site said.

Since Rock’s special, Netflix has hosted a handful of live shows, comedy specials and talk shows, including John Mulaney’s Everybody’s in LA, The Roast of Tom Brady, Joe Rogan: Burn Your Boats and weekly WWE Monday Night Raw, a 10-year deal with TKO Group (TKO) worth over $5 billion.

The streaming platform has also announced it will stream two NFL games on Christmas Day, as well as at least one Christmas Day football game in the next two years.
